Modern Technology
Modern technology combined with old-fashioned honesty resulted in a happy ending to what could have been a minor crisis.
After being seated at our table in San Diego’s Old Town restaurant Casa de Bandini, my grandson Barry’s cell phone rang with a call from his dad in Vancouver Washington.
The call was for my daughter Valerie, who was visiting from Boston. “My wallet?” she exclaimed. “Where?” “Who called my mom?” After she ended the call, a slight case of pandemonium broke out.
What happened and how disaster was avoided, is a testament to the benefits of modern technology, and a renewed belief in the honesty of people.
Valerie’s wallet containing all of the usual things, including photo identification needed to board a flight back to Boston in the morning, was discovered lying in the parking lot. The person finding the wallet saw a phone number in Hemet written on a piece of paper, and placed a call. Valerie’s mom, knowing we were all scheduled to be dining this evening with Barry, called his dad and he in turn called Barry. The finder was visiting San Diego, and lodged in the Embassy Suites.
A series of phone calls covering a total of over 3000 miles in a period of five minutes from San Diego to Hemet, to Vancouver Washington, back to San Diego, and then to the Embassy Suites in San Diego, resulted in the recovery of the lost wallet before it was discovered missing.
It’s a pleasure to know that honesty is alive and well, and let’s hear it for those cell phones!
