City Council produces disaster
The San Marcos City Council has taken us from traffic gridlock to paralysis by agreeing to rewrite its development agreement with San Elijo Hills developer, Home Federal Corporation, to allow 1,100 additional homes to be built before Rancho Santa Fe road is widened.

Polls, paint mark the return of the silly season
SAN MARCOS ---- A 15-minute telephone poll being described by some who have taken it as more than a little partial is the biggest whodunit since someone changed the "P" on P mountain into an "R."
While some fingers are pointing at Councilman Hal Martin because of the anti-Mayor Corky Smith tone to some of the poll's questions, Martin denies commissioning the poll. Besides, he insisted this week, he hasn't decided yet whether to challenge Smith for the mayor's seat.

SM man floats idea for model yacht club
SAN MARCOS ---- Local developer and yachter Bill Effinger wants to start a club in North County for people who love yachts --- the miniature, remote-controlled kind.
"San Diego has its model boat basin in Mission Bay, so why not have our own right here in San Marcos?" Effinger asked recently. His plan is to start an informal club of model boaters to meet once a month and organize regattas, or boat races.

SAN MARCOS ---- Bill Effinger says he is moving closer to fulfilling his dream of racing model yachts against other miniature boat enthusiasts.
Effinger, 72, said members of the city's Community Services Commission, whom he had met with Wednesday, seemed to be interested in the idea of him setting up model yacht races at Discovery Lake.
