I've been a resident of San Diego County since 1974 and North County since 1992. I have been active in civic affairs in the cities of San Diego, Escondido and San Marcos, and am one of the founders of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.
I am a past Board member of the Escondido Kiwanis and the San Marcos Chamber of commerce. I founded the ad-hoc committees of "Citizens Against the Power Grab" to help defeat the City of San Marcos' ill-conceived venture to take over our electric power distribution system, and "Citizens For the Future of San Marcos" to help promote better voter turn-out in the 2002 and future elections.
I believe my management experience in government, public corporations, service clubs and civic affairs are qualifications that will help the current board and management of the Vallecitos Water District plan for future growth and help insure the same high quality of service and and adequate water supply to cope with our fast growing community needs.
Water and the control of it, has been a well documented struggle for Californians beginning with the Gold Rush of 1849. Fortunes have been made and lives lost as the evolutionary tug-of-war has shaped and reshaped the political landscape of an adequate water supply for our ever burgeoning population.
How strange then that it has taken so long to bring Desalination into the supply equation. The answer of course, is politics, power and greed. San Diego County now has an opportunity to solve the water problem, well into the future. However, politics as usual cannot continue to stifle innovation. The time is right for SDCWA leaders to apply creativity and a win-win philosophy in the negotiations currently under way.
I want to have the opportunity to add my proven creative negotiating skills to the critical discussions now in progress. That's why I have chosen to seek the Vallecitos Water Districts Division #5 Board position.
